AtmosFX Review: What $8 to $60 Buys You in Projected Halloween Decorations

Most Halloween decorating money goes on things you have to store for eleven months of the year. AtmosFX sells the opposite: animated scenes as video files that you project onto a window, a wall or a sheet, then delete from your projector when the season ends. Nothing goes in the attic.
How it actually works
You buy a digital decoration, download the file (or buy it preloaded on a USB drive), and play it through a projector aimed at a surface. For window displays, the projector sits inside the house pointing out through a rear-projection material, so people on the street see ghosts drifting across your window. For walls and garden displays, you project directly onto the surface.
That means the files are only half the purchase. If you do not already own a projector, budget for one — that side of the cost is covered in a separate piece.
What the collections cost
Pricing splits into two tiers. Single scenes are cheap: Flames From Hell is $6, Bloody Massacre and Cockroaches are $8 each, Boo Time and Doll Face are $10, Jack-O'-Lantern Jokes is $14. These are short loops that do one thing.
Full collections are where the money goes:
- Ghostly Apparitions — $40, with Ghostly Apparitions 2 at $50 and volumes 3 and 4 at $60 each
- Jack-O'-Lantern Jamboree — $40, volume 2 at $50
- Bone Chillers — $40, Bone Chillers 2 at $50, Bone Chillers: Pirates at $55
- Boo Crew — $40, Boo Crew 2 at $55
- Creepy Clowns — $45
- Halloween Hosts — $60
- Halloween Monster Bash and Halloween Zombie Bash — $40 each
If you want to test the idea before committing, sample decorations run $4 — Boo Crew Soaring Spirits and Brontosaurus Playtime both sit at that price. One sample plus a projector you already own is a $4 experiment.
Download or USB
Several collections come both ways at close to the same price: Ghostly Apparitions is $40 as a download and the USB drive is also $40, while Ghostly Apparitions 2 and 3 are $50 and $60 as downloads with USB drives at $39.99. The USB versions suit anyone who would rather plug a stick into a media player than manage files. The AtmosKIT Halloween and Christmas USB drives are $10 each.
It is not only Halloween
This is the part people miss. The same projector serves the rest of the year: Christmas Carolers at $35, Christmas Living Portraits at $40, Gingerbread Lane at $35, Enchanted Snowman at $35, Happy Thanksgiving at $15, Hanukkah Window at $25, Hoppy Easter at $25, Dinosaur Encounter at $35 for children's parties, and America the Beautiful at $10 for the 4th of July.
Spreading a projector's cost across four or five occasions a year changes the arithmetic considerably compared with buying it for one night in October.
Who this suits — and who it does not
It suits you if you have a front-facing window or a flat wall people can see from the street, and you are willing to set up a projector each season. The effect is genuinely different from inflatables: movement, sound and scale that static decorations cannot match.
It does not suit you if you have no suitable surface, if your window faces away from foot traffic, or if you want something you can put up in five minutes and forget. Projection needs aiming, focusing and a dark enough evening to read properly.
